Hi there,

Hair transplantation is one of the most common cosmetic surgical option and becoming popular day by day. In this technique hair follicles are surgically removed from more hair enriched areas and implanted into scalp at the bald areas.

In one of the Hair Transplant Procedure hairs are  transplanted into the bald area using small bore needles or blades from small wounds of the donor strips of hair. Another technique is a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)  which involves removing and transplanting the hair from small hairy skin patch.

In both the techniques, hairs fall out and then regrow in the transplanted area approximately two months later. You need to consult a Skin Specialist to understand this in more details. I hope it helps.

Hi there,

As you described the symptoms in a 6 month old child, it could be a medical emergency and requires immediate attention from a pediatrician. Generally it may be a simple febrile seizure or epilepsy that is a common illness occur in young children, during a viral illness in which their fever spikes up high all of a sudden. Other epilepsy reasons may also result in same illness.

If this is due to simple febrile seizures which is actually not harmful and don't require any medical intervention, it may be a concern to your child's Pediatrician if he or she is not sure that your child is in fact having a simple febrile seizures or due to meningitis (infection in spinal/brain membranes). Further tests like an EEG, CT, or MRI, not routinely be done in children with a first simple seizure may be required for further episodes.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

Most commonly lacrimal (tear) duct obstruction in  adults appear due to either partially narrowed puncta or facial trauma. In order to treat narrow puncta, lacrimal ducts are flushed and irrigated while the puncta are dilated. However most of the cases of blocked tear ducts post facial trauma, the tear duct drainage system starts functioning again on its own a few months after the injury, and no further treatment is needed. I hope it helps.

Hi there,

From description of your symptoms it appears that you might be suffering from Sleep Apnea Syndrome, however this needs to be diagnosed with clinical examination, Nocturnal polysomnography (to understand your sleep pattern) only.

Common signs and symptoms you may experience like observed episodes of breathing cessation during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, abrupt awakenings, morning headache or insomnia.

If this gets confirmed as sleep apnea, Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP- It delivers air pressure through a mask placed over your nose while you sleep), supplemental oxygen or Surgery (if severe) may be advised. Hope this helps.

Hi there,

Tendonitis of shoulder appears as impingement syndrome which is an inflammation of the rotator cuff tendons and the bursa that surrounds the shoulder tendons. As a result of that there is a process of inflammation after initial injury. Thereafter, the recurrent inflammation can be self-exacerbating since the tendons and bursa become inflamed. Also, this inflammation causes a thickening of these structures and acquire more space resulting the tendons and bursa more pinched whenever there is any repeated effort like overhead activities (arm above head height), sleeping at night.

Investigations- An X-ray and MRI (further approach) would be required to exactly understand rotator cuff space deficit.

Treatment options- Rest is the key since it decreases inflammations. Anti-inflammatory medicines, cortisone injection provide some relief in decreasing the pain fast and recovering. Physiotherapy with simple exercises helps to resume normal functions. Surgery may be advised in case you don't respond to above treatments.

In addition, it is essential to avoid physical exercises that irritate the rotator cuff tendons. These include overhead weight lifting, throwing activities and sleeping with the arm over or behind your head. Hope this helps.

Hi there,

For us it is important to know what exact symptoms you are experiencing in order to tell you clinical correlation to high prolactin level.

Generally, prolactin serves an important function to stimulate breast-milk production in women during their reproductive lives, but it found in traces in males. Since it is secreted by pituitary glands in brain, it could be a strong possibility that there is some pituitary function error that may lead to production of high level of prolactin.

Elevated serum prolactin levels cause some serious effects on men's sexual potency. With high serum prolactin levels, a man's testicle do not get adequate stimulation to produce testosterone (male sex hormone) in sufficient level and as a result of that Serum testosterone levels then fall. Main problem arises with high prolactin level is giving more testosterone is not the cure because elevated serum prolactin levels prevent the body to respond naturally to testosterone.

Treatment could be removal of pituitary gland or taking medicines that increase level of dopamine (chemical in brain that controls prolactin level).  Three medications, bromocriptine, pergolide and cabergoline (Dostinex) have dopamine like properties and can be prescribed by your treating endocrinologist.

Hence it is very essential to consult your doctor to narrow down the diagnosis by clinical examination and investigations. Hope this helps.

Hi there,

If your country's climate is usually very cold, researches say that a good company's Beer contains folic acid, vitamins, iron and calcium, which could help provide a 'protective' effect on the cardiovascular system. Study subjects who regularly drank mild amounts of beer were less likely to suffer from diabetes and high blood pressure, and had a lower body fat content. Again don't forget this is just study, no 100% proven results are available.

On the other hand if climate is not always cold, its alcohol might react and lead to obesity, morbidity if regularly used. In my advice taking it occasionally may help with you something.

Dear Krista,

Your condition very much sounds like cellulitis which is pus formation (infection) after such skin injuries. If you could have started antibiotics just after the injury, it wouldn't have resulted into aggravation of the present condition.

Now there could be two options-

1) If the site is more tender and swelled due to pus formation, you need to consult a Surgeon to get it incised and drained with just few minutes of procedure. After that your doctor would like to prescribe antibiotics and pain-killers (with healing agents).

2) If skin can not be incised your doctor would like to prescribe you some antibiotics in order to treat infection and anti-inflammations medicines to heal it.

Also, it is important to get your a clinical evaluation, blood investigations done that helps you to rule out any underlying disorders like diabetes or anemia that delays healing.

I sincerely hope this helps.

However, if it got just small injury this may recover with the time as healing progresses. In such cases CT scan report may be normal. Hi there,

There are usually four  forms of alpha thalassemia ranging from, carrier , minor (trait), hemoglobin H disease and thalassemia major. In carrier form individuals remains asymptomatic and with minor individual may experience slight anemia. With your question, I am not sure which form you are suffering however it appears that it is harmless to you. Besides, it is hardly linked with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, though alpha thalassemia sometimes lead to bone deformities (not pain).

Just like thalassemia, JRA also has many forms and few may cause erosion, pain and swelling of multiple joins (especially weight bearing-knees, hips, ankles, feet, and neck). Also it is essential to get TB status evaluated since it may also lead to erosion of bones.

I would encourage you to consult an Orthopedic who would like to examine you and narrow down the diagnosis basis of X-rays blood investigations etc.

I hope the information I have provided proves helpful to you.

Masturbation is just a natural form of sex that doesn’t require a partner to perform. Every person either male or female has gone through many times in their lifetime with the process and it is absolutely normal to do. However, worrying continually and feeling guilty about it (including masturbation) are often noticed in people who are depressed, as is a feeling of guilt and a feeling of hopelessness. Additionally, excessive smoking, alcohol habits (if you do) increase impotence in both men and women. Your upcoming sex life, incidentally, often may suffer when you are depressed and smoking chronically but not because of any of your masturbation habits. In case if you still feel depressed, it will be best to have a face-to-face counseling from a person who is expert in young people's sex worries (psychotherapist or sexologist).

If there is a possibility to remove the pressure by adjusting body posture will typically result in gradual relief of these paresthesias.
